En 1796, sous le Directoire, le courrier qui transportait une somme de 7 millions destinée à l’armée de Bonaparte en Italie, est attaqué par cinq bandits dont quatre sont bientôt arrêtés. La police connaît l’identité du cinquième, un certain Dubosc. Lesurcques, victime de sa ressemblance avec Dubosc, est soupçonné, puis condamné et guillotiné malgré les efforts désespérés de sa femme et d’une amie d’un soir
In 1796, during the Directory, the courier who was bringing 7 millions francs to Bonaparte’s army in Italy is attacked by 5 bandits, 4 of whom are arrested shortly afterwards. The police knows the identity of the 5th bandit, a certain Dubosc. Lesurques who is mistakenly identified as Dubosc is apprehended, charged and guillotined despite the desperate attempts of his wife and a one night stand to prevent this..
